Research undertaken as part of 'Wheal Art Weekend' in association with 'Level2 - artist led projects'.
Three days on-site at South Wheal Frances - an abandoned mid 19th century mine and mineral ore processing site in Cornwall - with an assistant, observing the endeavors and movements of animals. Evidence of non-human activity (including bird flights) was recorded in note form and later transcribed into acetate ring bound map books. Pre-made plaster models of the engine house at Marriott's shaft (which once housed a steam powered pumping engine with a massive 1.9m diameter cylinder) were placed at the locations of non-human endeavor - such as ant hills, mole hills, rabbit holes, thrushes anvils and spider webs, and then photographed using a handmade pinhole polariod device.
